Both A and D seem correct to me but if you need to go with one then I'd say D. Fish spend their entire lives in water; the study of fish is called "ichthyology". B and C are totally wrong, however.

Let me know if you need anything else. :)

Question
Which two sections show Safie's quest for independence? Frankenstein by Mary Shelley (excerpt) "Taking with her some jewels that belonged to her, and a small sum of money, she quitted Italy", with an attendant, a native of Leghorn, but who understood the common language of Turkey, and departed for Germany. "She arrived in safety at a town about twenty leagues from the cottage of De Lacey," when her attendant fell dangerously ill. "Safie nursed her with the most devoted affection; " but the poor girl died, and the Arabian was left alone, unacquainted with the language of the country, and utterly ignorant of the customs of the world. She fell, however, into good hands. The Italian had mentioned the name of the spot for which they were bound; and, after her death, the woman of the house in which they had lived took care that Safie should arrive in safety at the cottage of her lover. Presently I found, by the frequent recurrence of one sound which "the stranger repeated after them", that "she was endeavouring to learn their language;" and the idea instantly occurred to me, that I should make use of the same instructions to the same end. "The stranger learned about twenty words at the first lesson", most of them indeed were those which I had before understood, but I profited by the others.
Solution 1

Answer:

  • "Taking with her some jewels that belonged to her, and a small sum of money, she quitted Italy"
  • "she was endeavouring to learn their language;"

Explanation:

In "Frankenstein" by Mary Shelley, Safie was taking a stab at independence by gathering her effects and some money to go travel to Europe by herself. When she arrives, she additionally endeavored to gain proficiency with the language, which would give her more self-sufficiency.

Solution 2
"Taking with her some jewels that belonged to her, and a small sum of money, she quitted Italy"

"she was endeavouring to learn their language;"
Question
Our aunt helen participated in a medical study that resulted in the cure which word does the boldface clause modify A. Aunt helen B. Participated C. Medical D. Study
Solution 1

Given the sentence "Our aunt Helen participated in a medical study that resulted in the cure.", the correct answer to which word does the boldface clause modify is D. Study.

The dependent clause "that resulted in the cure" starting with the subordinate conjunction "that" is a restrictive relative clause. This kind of clause does not function as an noun phrase but it has an adjetival use. This means that it contains a reference to a nount phrase. This eliminates both options B and C since they are a verb and an adjective.

Even if Aunt Helen was cured, she is not the word modified by the clause. The boldaface clause modifies the word study because if completes the information by stating that it was THAT particular study what cured resulted in a cure. The clause functions as an adjective that modifies the word study.

Solution 2
The correct answer would be study

Question
How are informative texts different from other types of writing and literature? 1.The do not include imagery, or symbolism, or figurative language 2.They do not include first person point of view 3.They do not include a central idea 4.They only present facts regarding a topic
Solution 1
The best answer here is your fourth one, they only present facts regarding a topic. When writing for information, as the author you want to ensure your readers are being presented with correct information. To do this, you must research before placing your information into whatever it is you're writing. When you do this, you don't want to give your readers incorrect information. Thus, your writing must be based on provable facts.

The other three options are all things that are included in other types of writing as well as informative writing, which is why they are not the best answer here.
